Himalayan Balsam Bashing on the River Dee

June 26 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Himalayan Balsam Bashing on the River Dee

  • Himalayan Balsam is an invasive non-native species that colonises riverbanks to the detriment of our local flora and pollinators.
  • It can be eradicated with persistent and coordinated action to remove it.
  • Removal is easy and can be done by anyone.

We are looking for groups of volunteers to “adopt” sections of the riverbank from Lover’s Walk at Pittengullies Brae, all the way down to Garthdee.

We have organised a number of Himalayan Balsam Bashing events. On these days volunteers will be given training on plant identification, how to remove the plant, and advice on staying safe while carrying out this work. The hope is that small groups will adopt sections of the riverbank to visit regularly.

Please mark your diary if you’re interested in helping out. All sessions will begin at 10 am and last for 3 hours. Please dress for the weather, whether sunny or wet, wear stout footwear, long trousers and a long-sleeved shirt and bring gardening gloves if you have them.

For any queries, please contact us at cbmcc@cbmcommunity.org.uk.
