Lower Deeside Neighbourhood Watch (LDNW)
Thieves, burglars, conmen, bogus workmen, and others tend to keep out of Neighbourhood Watch (NW) streets and districts. Why is that?
For two reasons: the residents have taken steps to PREVENT their criminal activity; and the risk of being caught is much higher.
NW is an information system. Residents are advised how to make their property more secure and what to do if they see something suspicious. That something suspicious may be elsewhere in the street or district. NW residents keep an eye out for all the other residents. So we can go off to work or on holiday, knowing that the other residents will be noting and reporting anything suspicious.
The Watch Schemes of Cults, Bieldside, Milltimber and Culter have formed an association. This works closely with the police, the community councils, and the regional and national associations. Information on crimes committed, new kinds of crime, and new prevention measures are passed quickly to all the schemes.
New kinds of crime?
Yes, it is not just crimes against property that NW is concerned with. Thefts take place all the time over the telephone, through the mail, and via the internet or email. NW warns also about these risks and advises on PREVENTION.
