When the Festival first started back in June 1975, it was originally known as the “Cults Festival”. Taking place at the end of the school year, the Festival complimented end-of-school year celebrations, and most events centred on the Academy and local Churches. The original logo was drawn by Rev. Donald Rennie and was used on all publicity material until the late 1980s. Following a ten year break, the Festival returned in 1999 as the “MBC Festival”, acknowledging the wider local community. The new pennant-style logo, designed Eleanore McKay, was used for a number of years.
Last year a competition was run throughout the MBC Festival to find a new logo to be used from 2018 to clearly identify and promote the MBC Festival in our community to appear on the posters, flyers and the new banners. The submitted logos were displayed in the Library throughout the Festival period and residents voted on the ones they liked best. Local resident Heather Millar created the winning logo in the Competition. Congratulations Heather! This colourful design will feature on flyers, posters and flag displays at all events and the 2018 MBC Festival events will be promoted using the new logo.
Choosing the winner of the Logo Competition was not easy. We particularly want to acknowledge the competition entry from Louisa Benson (age 12). Louisa’s poster was beautifully executed and received a large number of public votes. We are hoping that Louisa will assist us with some poster designs for this year’s Festival.
